Clean Cities Annual Survey It’s time to recognize our Clean Fuel Leaders! The Clean Fuel Partnership wants to recognize your efforts to lead the transition to cleaner transportation in southeast Louisiana as we collect responses from this year’s Annual Survey. As the local Clean Cities Coalition, one responsibility of the Southeast Louisiana Clean Fuel Partnership is to track the number of fleets using alternative fuel vehicles. All Clean Cities Coalitions perform this task so we can annually report the millions of gallons of gasoline that are displaced nationwide. To do this, however, we need your help identifying the alternative fuels and vehicles used in our region. If your fleet includes alternative fuels and/or vehicles, please complete the Annual Survey. All submissions will be entered into a special prize drawing and will be recognized at the Regional Planning Commission meeting on March 9, 2010 at the Regional Transportation Management Center. CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY!
Annual Survey FAQs: Who should complete the survey? Any commercial fleets what have used these fuels during the past year (January to December 2009) are encouraged to complete the Annual Survey: | · Biodiesel | · Hydrogen | | · Ethanol | · Electric Vehicles | | · Natural Gas | · Hybrid Vehicles | | · Propane
I reduced my energy and fuel use in other ways, should I complete a survey? Yes! Fuel and energy savings comes in many forms, and we are equally interested in recognizing you for other methods you have used to save fuel in your transportation fleet. Please contact us directly if you have implemented other energy saving technologies, such as: | · Idle reduction policies | | | · Fuel savings policies | | | · Alternative power units (APUs) | | | · Emission control devices
Why should I complete the survey? All survey respondents will be entered into a special prize drawing and will be recognized as Clean Fuel Leaders at the Regional Planning Commission meeting on March 9, 2010. In addition, the data helps to garner support for the work of Clean Cities Coalitions, which may result in increased funding for local clean transportation projects. What do you do with the data? All 87 Clean Cities Coalitions collect the same data so we can annually report the total gallons of gasoline that are displaced throughout the nation in a given year. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory compiles this data in an annual report—the Clean Cities Annual Metrics Report—which is available on the Clean Cities website: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/cleancities/accomplishments.html. As with all data we collect, your contact information will not be shared for any other purpose. How do I complete the survey? The survey is currently available on our website, here: http://cleanfuelpartnership.org/images/stories/annualsurvey2009.pdf. We will also be sending the survey as an email attachment in upcoming weeks. This year’s form is a fillable PDF form, making it easy to use and quick to complete. To use the fillable PDF form: | 1. Save the document to your computer. | | 2. Open the document and complete the fields directly in the form. | | 3. Save your answers. | | 4. Submit your completed survey (see below). |
How do I submit my completed survey? Submit your answers by: Thank you for your participation in our Annual Survey! If you know of other fleets using alternative fuels, please let us know so we can include them in the survey. Questions? Please contact us: Rebecca Otte, 504-483-8513 or Lauren Mikulak, 504-483-8503
ROUSH Adds Ford E-Series Vans for Propane Conversion Kits ROUSH has long been in the business of high-performance vehicles, but they are also innovating in the realm of alternative fuels. This winter ROUSH announced the next phase of their liquid propane conversion systems by offering EPA & CARB certified systems for the Ford E-Series vans, allowing the vehicles to run on propane instead of gasoline. Roush Propane Fuel Systems ROUSH first introduced liquid propane injection (LPI) fueling systems for the 2007-2008-generation Ford F-150. The certified conversions kits are now available for the Ford F-150, F-250, and F 350 and have been embraced by commercial fleets nationwide. An LPI system is similar to gasoline injection, utilizing a separate liquid propane gas (LPG) tank. Rather than vaporize the propane, LPI engines inject propane into the combustion chamber in liquid form. Liquid injection systems have proven reliable in terms of power, engine durability, and cold starting. The ROUSH LPI system is a closed system that requires no additional maintenance beyond Ford’s normal service schedule. The ROUSH system has been designed and engineered to preserve the horsepower, torque, and towing capability of the original vehicles. E-Series Van With the success of the F-series conversion kits, ROUSH is now accepting orders for fuel systems for the entire line-up of Ford E-Series vans. LPI fueling systems are available for passenger and cargo E-series vans including the E-150, E-250, and E-350 vehicles. Specifically, the ROUSH system is certified for the Ford 5.4L, V-8 engine which is found in the model year 2009 and newer vans. The Ford E-series van can now be powered by propane with a ROUSH Liquid Propane Injection fueling system. Photo courtesy of ROUSH
ROUSH’s propane-fueled E-Series vans are expected to meet Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) II emission standards, making it 90% cleaner than a new model year vehicle. Installation can be done by licensed installers on-site or at ROUSH’s assembly plant in Michigan. Along with the E-series, ROUSH plans to continue developing certified conversion kits; they are currently working on a propane kit for the Ford 6.8L, V-10 engine used on the E-450 Cutaway vehicle. This fuel system is scheduled to be available in late 2010. ROUSH also is also in the planning phase on several other propane powered Ford products such as the new 6.2L V8 engine for the F-250 & F-350, the 6.8L 3V for the F-450 & F-550 as well as the new Transit Connect for taxi cab applications. Those products are expected to become available beginning in 2011. Why Propane? Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is already used by many fleets including Airport Shuttle. Propane is a colorless, odorless fuel that is most stable in its liquid form in which it is stored under pressure and transported. It has been used for decades to fuel light-duty and heavy-duty propane vehicles, and it has a high energy density, giving these vehicles good driving range. Nationally, propane is the most commonly used alternative transportation fuel and is the third most used vehicle fuel, behind gasoline and diesel. A notable benefit of propane is a 20-40% reduction of carbon monoxide (CO) emissions and an 80% reduction in the emission of particulate matter (PM). There are more than 270,000 propane vehicles on the roads in the United States, most of which are used in fleets and for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, including school buses, street sweepers, forklifts and trucks. ROUSH conversion kits for the Ford E-series vans expand the application of propane-powered vehicles. Many are optimistic about the ROUSH system and the use of propane as a vehicle fuel. Brian Feehan, vice-president of the Propane Education & Research Council, echoes this sentiment: “Evidence clearly shows that propane as a motor fuel can save fleets considerable amounts of money. Now fleets are taking a hard look at their environmental impact as well. Propane is available right here, right now and can help fleets on both of these fronts. I’m pleased that ROUSH is taking steps to make a variety of propane-fueled vehicles available.” For more on Roush propane fueling systems, call 800-59-ROUSH or visit: www.ROUSHperformance.com/Propane For more on propane as an alternative vehicle fuel, visit the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuel and Advanced Vehicles Data Center: http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/fuels/propane.html For current prices of propane and other alternative vehicle fuels, visit the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuel Price Report: http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/price_report.html
